EP REVIEW: RUINA - 'As The Sky Begins To Break'

Heavyweight UK multi-instrumentalists RUINA make a solid impression with their new EP, As The Sky Begins To Break.

Since 2020, heavyweight multi-instrumentalists RUINA have been making an impact in the scene. With a desire to create new pathways and sounds with their music, their EP Nemesis has opened up a gateway for their new EP release, As The Sky Begins To Break. An abrasive three-track lamentation from the Southwest Englanders, RUINA displays a powerful presence, stunningly fleshed out with massive guitar lines and a deluge of corybantic percussive energy.

"An experience that delivers stunning precision and emotional passion, out of all three tracks, "Wavebreaker" takes us on the most satisfying and complete journey, showing growth and maturation from the band since their last EP."

From the beginning, "Ash & Fire" makes an explosive appearance. RUINA pulls no punches in letting their listeners know where they stand as their vocals and instrumentation style are displayed in full force from the start, providing a hard-hitting and impassioned experience.

However, the prime moment of the EP comes with "Wavebreaker." An experience that delivers stunning precision and emotional passion, out of all three tracks, "Wavebreaker" takes us on the most satisfying and complete journey, showing growth and maturation from the band since their last EP.

While all three points of interest set out the specific goal to dazzle the listener with their developed sound since their last release, the finale "Wavebreaker," slightly leaves us wanting more. This is by no means a bad thing; it simply means that RUINA is on to something far greater if they decide to release an album in the future. Overall, RUINA has made a solid effort of an EP, building anticipation for what may come in the future for the UK emerging metalcore band.
